Yes I I agree with Hywl, its common name is snow berry due to the white berries, it can grow quite large and send up ots of suckers. Several people say it is a bit of a thug. I don't grow it myself.

It is an absolute thug over time - the last one I dealt with had spread 10 feet along the fence in one garden, and advanced 5 feet into the garden next door, under the fence, a right pain to get rid of...

The top berry looks as if it's lit up :)

Yes - 'snowball bush' - spreads everywhere!

Here too. Growing wild everywhere. I do not think that it is controllable unless you destroy it completely. It does have a pretty little leaf though and we have some against the road which we are leaving as it keeps deer out from that side :-)

We had a dreadful job trying to eliminate it from our last house and when it was gone we discovered a path we hadn't known was there.

Agree about its spread. It was here when I moved in 15 years ago and I still haven't got rid of all of it.
Incidentally, it is poisonous but the berries taste awful so there's little chance of anyone eating enough to be harmed.

I had the same problem years ago when it was growing along the fence in a neighbour's garden. A nightmare to keep under control and I never did win.

Oh, Solada, after all this, I'm wondering whether you've bothered to keep the cutting or chucked it out - if you want something with china white berries that's non invasive, buy Pernettya procumbens White Berry (also called Gaultheria procumbens) - but it needs acidic soil and a male plant to guarantee berries.

Thanks all.....Bamboo..I have planted the cutting, not holding much hope of it taking but we will see.
Had great success with others I took in August, covered them with plastic till they took...was quite surprised with the results.
I got these cuttings from a bungalow I stay at in North Wales which has all sorts of bushes growing around the walls.
This white berry one was took two weeks ago when I was there for a long weekend...recharging my batteries after having work done in the house.
The berries are not like any I have seen before, remind me of tiny balloons not fully blown.
It does not appear to have "taken over",maybe it is not the plant you are all thinking off????...not that I doubt you are all very knowledgeable on gardening for one minute :)

Give it time, Solada, and you will see . . . we are not wrong, lol!

The cutting has to take yet...not holding my breath tho!!!
The stem are very thin on it and cannot image roots coming from it....we will have to see what happens. :)
