Strange blobs of white substance in our garden covering area about 30ft x30ft over a week ago turned black after the rain there are about 8 blobs can you please tell me what this is.

Might be a form of dog's vomit fungus (yes, really!). It comes in different colours and goes black when producing spores. It's a slime mould and does no harm.
