For all you experts out there.
These plants were found at the nursery with quite a few other Hostas, which is what I believed they were but they have never lost their leaves,(photos taken today). The ones behind lost their leaves in the Autumn.
Today I took one out of it's pot and it looks like any other perennial root. I'm hoping someone can put a name to it.
They are 3inch pots so only small. It's like deja vu. I feel like I should know what it is but I don't. HELP!

My guess would be Chlorophytum, aka, spider plant.

they look like spider plants to me too but did you have any liriopes or the 'grass' called gardeners garters? I don't think it is a grass but it is a thug.

Nope - I'm pretty sure they're Yucca, likely Yucca flaccida Golden Sword, (or possibly Y. filamentosa Garland Gold, hard to be certain at this early stage) assuming they've been outdoors all winter. I recognise the foliage, I grow this myself and have planted out several.

Hi, I agree with Bamboo, the roots are Yucca like, but Chlorophytum has fibrous roots, you can propagate these from the nodules on the roots, Derek.

This is one of the joys of gardening. It will eventually reveal itself- but i like the bright variegated foliage. Let it grow on and see what you get.

It would be really bizarre to find something like this at a nursery around here.

To me, they look like very young Furcraea foetida 'Mediopicta'.

I agree with Bamboo too. We have one in our garden.

Come to think of it, my pick is way too tropical to winter outdoors in the UK. For some reason I was thinking that they came out of the greenhouse, but re-reading Thorneyside's account, "'Tain't necessarily so!" :)
Bamboo's most likely right.

Thanks to everyone for the names. Definitely not a spider plant, the foliage on these is more leathery. The plants have been outside for two years at least and probably more. They were alongside the Hostas so I just assumed they were Hostas too. As Tugbrethil says "it ain't necessarily so". Best not to assume as I did. I'll just have to wait and see what comes of them. Thanks again everyone.

Had you added the the above additional description initially I would not have said spiderplant.

You'll be waiting a while to decide for sure - the two Yucca f. Golden Sword on my balcony that look exactly like this that I made from a mature plant last year won't look much different for another year at least, they're pretty slow to get going

Sorry Loosestrife. You're right of course, I should have said the leaves were leathery but was looking at them in their pots along with all my bare Hosta pots and wasn't thinking. I tried looking online for evergreen Hosta to find there isn't one so asked on here.
I've put one in the greenhouse to see if it might come on a bit but I'm sure you're right Bamboo, it's a waiting game now. They're still only small plants.

How do I say thanks?
