Climbers growing up giant fennel. My friend gave me this idea and I thought 'yes why not?' There is a large clump in my garden which is about 6' high in summer. Can you suggest a summer climber and perhaps a winter one too? I only cut the stems back in spring (just done it). i guess it would need to be something that can be cut back hard in spring. The bed is west facing and soil is clay mixed with compost.

Suppose you try annuals? Quite a few to choose from. You can vary the effect from year to year to see what looks best.Can't think of anything for winter though.
