Can anyone tell me what this is. I think it's a weed so I keep pulling it out as it sprouts up all through out my garden. My mum says it's wild strawberries.

I don't think so - their leaves normally have three broad leaflets.
Does it creep along spreading by runners, and have small yelow flowers? I think its probably creeping cinquefoil, Potentilla reptans.

It does look like one of the Potentilla tribe.

Yes, that is Potentilla reptans. It does have quite pretty yellow flowers. It is perennial, so you will have to dig out the roots or use weedkiller.
