what is the best way to store cucumbers

Cool and airy or you will get mould on them. Keeping cool but not cold also means that it slows the drying out process and them becoming soft and flabby. They don't store for that long though, maybe two or three weeks.

The only way I know to store them long term is pickled. Here's a recipe from the BBC website - http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/pickledcucumber_11033
Otherwise about 10 days if wrapped in cling film and kept in the fridge.

if you look on my home page I did a blog on pickled cucumber that I can recommend-- I make them every year and keeping them in the 'fridge they last for at least a year ( as long as you seal them well

As far as I know, they're not something you can store - you cut and eat each one straight away, or give to others to eat, or you can pickle them, though usually this is done with small cucumbers.
