Could it be Dichorisandra thyrsiflora ("Blue Ginger") ? Same family as the Wandering Jew plant (Tradescantia) which is Commelinaceae.

It could be but the rhs says it flowers in autumn.
are the leaves arranged in a spiral on the stalk?
Is the picture taken recently or is it from the autumn?

Sorry, Shirley! I tried to post my comment last night, but it apparently didn't go through until I hit the button again tonight! Something weird going on with my computer!

this has me stumped.
do the flowers open up more or do they stay 'closed'.
how big are those leaves and how tall is the flower spike?
I get the feeling it is quite large
is it scented?
