Looks like Campsis grandiflora or C. 'Madam Galen'.

Hmm. My 'Mme. Galen' has more of a yellow throat. I suppose it could be C. grandiflora, or a different variety of C. x tagliabuana.

I was looking at the yellow on the outside of the throats, Tug - flowers look a bit rainspotted to me, hard to say from them, maybe its just the pic.

Mine have a yellow throat about 2 cm wide showing from the front. This one looks like less than a cm, at a guesstimate.

Gorgeous! Must try to grow this one... :-)

Fantastic! One of these lovely plants grows in a town near us and I've wondered for years what it was! Now I know what to look for whenever I'm near a GC! If only my Spanish was better I'd pluck up the courage to ask the owner for a cutting. :o)

I think you're right, Tug, its not Madame Galen - but the radicans I've seen have smaller flowers, more red than that too, so I reckon grandiflora?

That's my guess at present, Bamboo. Looking closely at the picture, the leaves have a little sheen to them, which is a characteristic of C. grandiflora. The others have matte finish leaves.
Fractal: I'm not too surprised at the hard pruning, especially if Ladygardener has it in a (relatively) hot south exposure. Around here we just cut off everything thinner than a finger in winter, and occasionally cut it to the ground, just for the sake of controlling it. In the cooler parts of the UK, that might delay bloom too much, though.

I see. Yes, I wouldn't recommend this sort of pruning in the UK as do the RHS.
