Lawn dessication

West Sussex, United Kingdom

We have had no significant rain for over 12 weeks. Our grass is dead. Our soil is 10cm deep over shingle and we are about 5 mins from the sea.We are considering replanting with clover and/ or wildflowers/ drought tolerant grass. Any ideas how to do this?

Is there a wildflower or wild plant association in the UK that might help our sailor?

What about walking along the edge of the shore and see what grows there. There will be lots like Trefoil or thrift.one with a small mauve flower, forget the name. Try Googling seaside plants.

Is your garden exposed to sea elements ? Have you any form of hedging if not plants such as escallonia and tamarisk provide a good barrier to protect other plants from high winds.

Quite a wide selection of plants can be grown given some protection ranging from anemones , hardy geraniums grasses as mentioned lovely sea hollies , valerian even dianthus and chrysanthemum do not object to coastal postions.

All do well here by North Sea so should be OK in your area.
