i have split into a several pieces a very large phormium (new Zealand flax) replanted some of the divisions. quite a lot of the stems are yelowing quite badly... should I cut them of to about a foot high which will look ugly for a season or so and just let it fight back or just leave them to settle..
regards

If you mean you had one phormium and split it into separate plants, they should be split in such a way as to retain the fan shapes in each section, and each section should have roots attached. If that's what you did, but some leaves are yellowing, they'll just be leaves that are no longer attached. If the sections you created did not have sufficient root material, then likely a lot of the topgrowth will die back unless/until new roots are formed. Just keep the sections well watered and see what happens.

this may be they haven't yet rooted properly. so it may be a case of wait and see.
when you split it did each bit have roots or are they cuttings that you have rooted yourself? It sounds as if they are cuttings. they will need plenty of water too.
