Hi can anyone suggest whats wrong with my Bay tree, it about fifteen years old up until last spring grown in a large pot,but it seems unhappy so it has been replanted in the garden, and seemed to thrive .But now although it hs small green shoots sprouting all the older leafs have gone brown from the tips ...and the recent flowers are looking as if they are dried out ???

This is normal for a Bay tree. Older leaves eventually yellow then drop off and are replaced with newer leaves. Many broad leaf evergreens do this such as my euonymous -Silver Queen which is doing the same thing.

When exactly did you transfer it to the ground?

Sorry not convinced this is normal - never seen it on mine in 14 years.

You're right, Steragram, its not normal, but I rather wonder whether its drought related... hence the query about when it was transferred to the ground.

I'd rather see a photo of the plant in question. Who knows how long this leaf has been off the tree -maybe two weeks? It's normal for a Bay tree to shed it's older leaves, especially this time of year. However, there could be other factors at play.

How do I say thanks?
