Seedlings usually don't bloom for 20-30 years, anyway. Best to buy a grafted one.

Actually it is quite easy. You need fresh collected seeds. Wash them in warm soapy water overnight preferably to get rid of the waxy coating on the seed. sow in ordinary compost and leave exposed to winter weather, but protected from mice who adore the seed. They often germinated the following spring. As said though you do have a long wait for them to reach flowering size. Sadly the three I had managed to grow were hit by last years winter cold and died.

Only tried because some one asked me how to do it and after doing the reasearch I thought I ought to try myself. Lost interest once the seeds germinated. We already have 10 Magnolias in the garden.

Plant the seed in a pot stick in a corner and ignore for years. It can take a long time to grow a tree from a seed, easier to buy one.
