Magnolias

I took this picture also in Gramado. The city its known for the flowers: magnolias, buganvileas, wisterias (glicinias) and hydranges which blossom at the side of the roads.
I dont have any idea about the botanical type.

I don't want to be a spoil sport and do not want Marquerite to think I being a nerd but this is unfortunately not M. grandiflora. M. grandiflora is an evergreen and though the flower in the photo is almost the same as M. grandiflora the supporting braches are leafless. I think it may well be a form of Magnolia denudata which bear it's flowers before the tree come into leaf. another possibility is Magnolia kobus but I think the flowers in the photo are larger. This is always the problem with trying to identify plants from photos. google both and see what you think. best wishes dioon11
