What was the outcome?

I'm pretty sure that's a garter snake. They are common throughout the US. They have an affinity for water. They're also known as a 'garden snake.' They do have some venom, but not enough to cause harm. He'd much rather flee then strike, but will if cornered. They eat slugs, rodents, small fish & anything it can fit in its mouth.

After a few minutes the snake shot towards the frog like an arrow. It grabbed hold of the left front leg of the frog and proceeded to dislocate its jaw on the frog's short front leg and all the while the frog did not make a move and appeared frozen. Then when the frog finally realized that it was in the process on being eaten, the $&@it hit the fan and a titanic water wresting match began and ended with the frog breaking loose and diving to the bottom. I think that this frog was too big for the snake to eat anyhow. Later I noticed that when the frog surfaced, it had paid a price for freedom and life.... the left front leg had the skin degloved off of it but still it took the mealworm I offered it. I even offered the snake one who was resting on the edge of the pool but it didn't go for it........ Bath, I was walking along a stream fly fishing for trout when I came upon a boy fishing too with bobber and hook. I asked him what bait he was using and he said that the was using a bunch of big worms he'd had found. He complained though they bit him when he put them on the hook. His hand had little puncture wounds and was swelling. I took a look in his bait can. He had come upon a nest of baby copperheads and I realized that those little pin pricks were actually snake bites! The boy's home was nearby and I walked him back and told his dad just to have him checked out. Actually to see such natural dramas carried out in my garden gave me a sense of accomplishment of all the hard work I put into it.

That's amazing! I didn't even notice that lucky frog until you mentioned it.

Good story, Loosestrife - I asked what happened because it seemed to me the frog was way too big for that snake - eyes bigger than his belly!
