As an update to my question yesterday about the strawberry net being eaten - I've been told by my local garden centre that the culprit is a squirrel ! The chap there says he has seen squirrels do this , but why and how to stop them he didn't know. In fact just seen the criminal running along the lawn !!

Strawberries are still green and untouched so I guess he just likes nylon !

He may of used that area in the autumn to hide nuts etc in the soil ?

Well, I'll tell you what works for me as weird as it sounds - vacuum cleaner fluff. Dump it around your plants or the entrance. Do this every time you vacuum. Works even better if you have a dog or cat - the scent repels them. It's free fertilizer too! I haven't lost a single carrot, beet or cabbage yet - fingers crossed.

He must have taken the bits he took off somewhere, can't imagine a squirrel would eat it - maybe for use in his drey, or cavity nest, no idea really - thanks for getting back though!

Yes they are little so and sos - we have had them eating through the wire mesh on a peanut feeder. They must have amazing teeth!
