I have a nastly feeling about this! Anybody like to confirm or deny what I am thinking? This was in one of my bulb frames 25 miles east of Inverness, Scotland.

Hi Bulbaholic, as Gnarly says, definitely lily beetle, looks like they've made it up to scotland now, I stopped growing lilies a few years ago because of them, but I understand there is an insecticide that can kill them now, Derek.

Thanks, (I think) Gg. It had to be a lily beetle but, as far as I knew, they were still in the south of Scotland. It was a great disapointment to find this one.

It may have been brought up in a batch of plants, I was in B&Q at the weekend and I spotted two sitting on the leaves
As you may know I keep Honey Bees and a Asian Hornet has been found at a retail warehouse in the central belt of Scotland which no one was expecting, so many routes in to the UK with pests.

I am now hearing that they have been in lowland Moray for the last four or five years; this was the first in our garden. Whilst checking information on them I was sent this link which shows the rapid spread north around the turn of the century. The large leaps that it makes could well be attributed to plant movement either via garden centres or trade stands at the large horticultural shows.

Had them here in Argyll 4 years ago, they also attacked the Hemerocalis!
I threw all Lillies away, didn't grow any the following year, put fresh bulbs in last year, and were all OK. Keeping a close eye on them this year.

I stopped growing lilies for 4 years because of lily beetle and have started again this year. I found one beetle about a month ago but none since then. I am not deceived though!
