welcome to GoY
Pachysandra is ideal , it is evergreen and also comes in a variegated form too. I have it under a beech hedge.
some ajuga's do ok as do the vinca minor, they come in several colour forms, plue, white, purple and bicolour pinky purple / white.
I also grow Waldenstein ternate, a small yellow flower.
Mitella is a small green leafed plant that grows happily under the camellia, mahonia and rose, and that is shady but not as dry as where the pachysandra is.

I have Ajuga reptans 'Black Scallop' and really love the glossy black leaves, but they need a little sun to get the shiny black color, otherwise they stay green which is nice also.

In my dry, shaded border I have Woodruff (pretty white flower); blue Periwinkle (Vinca), perennial geraniums and Buglossoides purpurea (bright blue).

London pride does well there and surprisingly Crocosmia! there are some perennial geraniums (I have two doing well under trees but sadly have lost the labels. Polystichum setiferum is an attractive fern that would be OK there.
Epimedium perralchicum "Frohenleiton" spreads nicely, yellow flowers in spring but the highlight is the fabulously coloured new foliage in spring.
