Can anyone tell me what this plant is that's growing rampant in one area of my garden. Also is it ok to use in the compost.

It looks like Jack by the hedge/garlic mustard to me. It produces small white floers and the root fattens up. at this seedling stage yes you can compost it but if the main root gets thicker than a pencil then just compost the leaves. Don't compost the flowers or seed heads.
welcome to GoY too.

Alliaria petiolata is the botanical name for the plant mentioned. google images and see if it matches.

Yes, I agree with Alliaria petiolata. You can check by crushing a leaf - it has a strong garlicky smell.

Thank you all. Amazing! I have just crushed a leaf and it does smell garlicky.

As you have a lot you might like to know it is edible. If you google garlic mustard uses you'll find lots of interesting info. (I've never tried eating myself though!)

Has the look of Petasites, aka Butterbur. Leaves may be composted but not the root or seed heads.
