I don't think its that strange, but then I've spent years reading science fiction, so maybe that's why its not strange to me, but I do find it absolutely hilarious. It's the only non fiction book I own, everything else that's a novel gets passed on or recycled, I occasionally reread it and it still makes me laugh...

Depends - if the trunks both arise separately from the base and have roots attached to each part, possibly - if the trunk splits well above soil level, no.
