I have a plant, at least 15 years old just consisting of spiky leaves. The nearest description I have found is wild pine or tillanosia fasculata. Almost overnight it has produced giant stalks, at least 8-10 feet tall with multiple buds of red flowers. Is this a rarity and do I have the correct name?

Are you in the UK?
I think you must mean Tillandsia fasciculata, Giant air-plant.

We might be taking about a phormium. Many of them seems to be flowering this year.
