Hi I have taken some blue iris plants from my friends pond and moved them to my pond. Mine is about a foot deeper than hers. Also when we were removing them we couldn't take the whole root - the main bit and the thickest root broke off but there are smaller roots coming off - will they grow and survive?

As your pond is deeper you may need to stand the basket on something to raise the soil level to water level. They won't be happy really submerged.

It will take three or four years to get your little snippet to be well established plant. This is not a bottom dweller like a Lilly these grow in the shallows close to the pond margin or in boggy conditions. Duplicate that in your pond and with full sun exposure it has a chance.

Did you cut the foliage fans back before digging them up, or immediately afterward? If it's been more than a couple of days, it will be too late for that to help.

Hi Nikki and welcome to GoY. They may survive but it is going to be harder on them without the main root, all you can do really is wait and see.
