we set a victoria plum tree in feb 10 and to our surprise we had 12 plums but alas all had maggots inside what can we do to stop this happening again.

Sounds to me like they have been infested with the plum moth maggot. This little critter is layed by the plum moth when the flowers are on bloom and then hatch in the fruit when they have formed. If you go to www.defenders.co.uk/traps.htm you might be able to find how to prevent them in future years. Good luck
