I was given seeds of this plant and it likes dark cool places under trees best. I don't know its name but it has flowered for the first time.

Heuchera

Hi, it's Francoa sonchifolia, Derek.

Agree, Francoa - pretty thing, but it doesn't mind sun, what it can't stand is dryness at the root, it likes damp soil conditions, so that's probably why you find it won't grow in sun, it gets too dry.

Thanks Derek and Bamboo. I gave some seedlings to my friend who put them in a dry sunny position. Mine are ten times bigger and very healthy looking by comparison to hers.

Mine is under a tree, but When is it ever too dry in Scotland? Not this year for sure! Not since April anyway. I was watering daily April May and remember saying. "We're aaah doomed for July" right again! Lol

Originally we did think it might be a Heuchera. We discussed it last year Karen but I had no flowers then. It has been known as the mystery plant. I can tell my friend Barbara tomorrow what it is called.

I collected the seeds last year and thinking that there were hardly any in the old flower heads, sowed the lot. They germinated in their hundreds. Failed utterly to manage to prick any out though as they were too crowded even to pricked them out in clumps.
Ours is in a shady position, but the soil there is very well drained so the need for damp soil may not be a much as thought.

I got a lot of seedlings too but I sowed them thinly and gave them to lots of friends. It has taken two years to flowering.

Another one for dead-heading then :)

I like dead heading anyway. It tidies things up quickly. Bit like picking up litter.

How do I say thanks?
