A little Westie will be joining us soon, I am told they cannot jump higher than 2 1/2 to 3'. Need a hedge option , preferably something with a little interest. Would use a short wired fence til it is grown in.

Take a look at Silver Queen Euonymous; add a Silver King for bright orange winter berries.

Interesting Paul.I have found Silver Queen to take a long time to grow upwards though it makes a lovely low bush.
In fact none of my Euonymus fortunii have grown to three feet even after ten years.
Lonicera nitida Baggesons Gold would grow quite quickly and be very dense if clipped regularly.

Mine are at least 3 feet tall. They have a certain tidy growth habit.

Thank you both for your suggestions, I have googled both and think either option would be a great choice!
We are in 'the great Northwest' on the east side of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Usually known for it's good soil , our little corner is on the Ocean and therefore the soil is quite sandy. We have a sprinkler system in place ( just it case it doesn't rain enough in our Rainforest) A goodly amount of sun May to September...... most years. Exposure to sun is pretty much all day.

that sounds a wonderful place.
I'd also consider Berberis and Acuba
but you would still have to have some form of fencing at the base of the hedge as terriers are notable diggers and they will squirm their way through the shrubs.

Get ready to have a broken heart. You are going to loose your dog if you take that fence down. It will either find its way out or be stolen. These days I never let my dogs out of my sight there are so many thieves around to steal them...addicts of course. Sad to say, this cancer has spread everywhere.
