What type of fertilizers do you feed Hot Poker plants.

Coos County, Kelley? If so, I would check the soil pH. If it's lower than 6.5, use an organic general purpose, such as 5-5-5. If it's higher than 7.5, use cottonseed meal, with occasional applications of washed seaweed--or commercial kelp meal. If in between, apply alfalfa meal. East of the Cascades, the soil is more consistently alkaline, so the second formula rules.

now that is a full and interesting response. we don't seem to have such interesting sources of 'meal'. in the uk I'd have said a general all purpose feed like growmore. I don't tend to add anything except for my own compost/leaf mould.

In the UK, with the exception of really chalky areas, the soil is pretty consistently slightly to severely acid, due to the relatively high rainfall, and prehistoric forest cover. In coastal Oregon, differences in terrane, basement rock, and prehistoric vegetation types have led to a very patchy distribution of acid and alkaline soils. Growmore is very similar to the 5-5-5 that I mentioned. From what I understand, neither cotton nor alfalfa is grown much in the UK, also.

How do I say thanks?
