How may I rid my lawn of worm casts.

Why do you want to get rid of worm casts when most gardeners can't get enough of them? It's free premium fertilizer for your lawn. Many garden centers sell it by the pound. If you really want to get rid of them, you'll have to get rid of the worms.

They can be a pain as autumn approaches, or we have an extended period of wet, but I'm afraid, as Moon Grower, says, other than lifting as much as you can of them with a trowel and depositing on the border, you need to wait till they dry out and brush them across the lawn. Look on the bright side - they're aerating the lawn and leaving free fertilizer

...and a rake works much better than sweeping the grass.

Not for worm casts B. it needs to be a broom to actually get the across and of the lawn. Rake works wonderfully for anything else!

Yes rakes are made specifically for this purpose and are what professionals here prefer. A broom merely brushes the surface. Sorry, I never heard of anyone sweeping the grass. Brooms are for hard floors. Using the right tool for the right job will make life easier.

The broom officially recommended for this purpose is often called a besom, its a bunch of twigs tied together on a long pole, but any broom will do, so long as its not too soft. It can be done with a wire lawn rake, so long as its used the wrong way round, that is, with the tines facing upwards, so you're using the back of the rake, moving from side to side. Personally, I find that more physically difficult than using a broom...

We just use regular lawn rakes made from bamboo or plastic, very light & easy to use. But go enjoy your broomstick.

one of our local garden centres sells traditional besoms for this very purpose. they are made locally and are brilliant. they are advertised as traditional lawn rakes and like the bamboo ones are light and easy to use.
so yes we will enjoy our broomsticks Bathgate and we have the props ready for Halloween. no extra expense incurred :o)

Well, probably not what you wanted to hear, because there isn't a solution, but hope it was useful to a degree anyway, Linsley.
