Daughter in San Diego ( where I am now ) decided to move her 4 year old Mandarin tree out of it's pot, into the garden. Took her ages to get it out then we carried it across to a prepared hole which we watered thoroughly and put it in, filling round the root with her compost. We've watered it since then.
I just read that it was exactly the wrong time of year to do this. Will it survive ? Pictures show original pot and completed job.

I think you'll be fine especially being in San Diego, California and you moved it to a more favorable location. Just keep it well watered until it settles into its new spot. Are you moving to California?

Thanks B, you've quite made my day, but as to your question - sadly not. I should have moved many years ago but it's a bit too late now. Wonderful place though !
