It is best to prune bridal wreath immediately after flowering. You could take some of the thick off now and as long as you leave some of this years growth on it you will get some flowers next year. When pruning after flowering take all this years flowering shoots off and the stems left will put out new shoots which will flower the following year.
If the shrub is very unruly then you could prune as hard as you like now but it won't flower next year or, as the first answerer said, leave it until after it flowers next year.

I've seen it, as you know, Sheila - just leave it till after its flowered next year, its not causing a problem where it is at the moment.

thanks for your advice Scotkat and Anchorman.
Bamboo that one I am leaving but I have another that is massive but think I will take all your advice and leave it for now and give it a good prune next year.

Personally I would not prune until after in blooms next year in case we spoil nthe next blooms .
I may be wrong but would be interested in what everyone else says.
