I have a very heavy crop of Victoria Plums which has resulted in a branch breaking off. The number of plums involved must run into 3 figures. Thefruit is unripe, I live in Scotland. What action can I take to ripen the fruit or can I cook the plums?

I bet they'll make perfect jam. You may need a little extra sugar, and pectin (victoria jam's sometimes a b----r to set), but they're probably far enough forward to use. Try a few stewed first, as a tester. Phil J

If you have a shed with a window, take the whole branch into it. The plums should ripen, keep dry. If they start to rot, cook them or make jam.
