Our laburnum tree is at least 30+ years old. It is growing in a sunny position and has never been pruned since we moved here 24 years ago. Today we have noticed cracks have appeared down its trunk. Is this something to worry about?

Exactly. I've got some cut stems from a garden clearance, and the outer bark is split, but the wood is sound. The tree was perfectly healthy. Phil J

A photograph would be helpful, but do you mean actually in the trunk, or just in the bark?
