I understand Cyclamen Coum are ideal for naturalising under trees so each year I plant more in the woodland with the hope they will really multiply and spread. The trees are mainly deciduous and my question is, should I remove fallen leaves as the plants are quite covered at the moment or will this expose them too much to the cold. I’ve uncovered this one and I’m pleased to see tiny new leaves in the centre, I just want them to do as well as possible, thank you.

Thanks Bulbaholic. That's exactly what I was thinking - the leaves are useful for the cyclamen but I don't want them swamped. The fallen leaves on the cyclamen leaves haven't affected them, no rot or brown patches. I guess nature will take its course and I will do as you say - clear leaves from some clumps and leave the others and see what happens, with windy days though, thinking about it, it's going to be difficult.

What a fantastic spot for Cyclamen Coum... wish we had! Snowdrops would love it there too!

As you say Moon grower it would be wonderful for snowdrops...and bluebells? Makes you think of Spring, lucky you Dawnsaunt!

Thanks MoonGrower, Honey suckle. I have snowdrops and bluebells too, I lift, split and replant every year. This was a paddock 18 years ago until we planted it up with what were then tiny trees :-)

If we are adding to the list then Trilliums and Fritillaria would probably like your wood also.

Erythroniums too...

Yes! Wouldn't they look great. It's only these last few years I've had a woodland carpet, I remember the first couple of summers, the grass was as high as the trees. Fritillaria should be ok as it's quite damp, it's so cold and wet here but I would really like trillium. Might need a mortgage!

Just start small with the Trilliums, a few 'bulbs'. A totally different thought, a leaf blower would move the leaves of some of the cyclamen if you have... Oh dear, to sleep, perchance to dream of a way we can create :) or rather, not create... we've done the best we can with the land we have and I know in a month or so it will look wonderful :)

What a good idea, getting trillium rhizomes, I only thought about plants, I will look into where/when I can get some. I dream of swathes of wood anemone too, I have a few, planted about 4 years ago but they're not spreading, I guess I need to be patient.
There's nothing quite like the sight of early spring bulbs, yours must look a picture.

I had one blue anemone Dawn, and it sat alone for a while but it is beginning to spread slowly now. They are so beautiful - I hope yours spread in time.

I have the blue ones under a Betula in the garden and like yours a bit slow but multiplying nicely now each year but Anemone nemorosa (Wood Anemone) don't seem happy, maybe the rhizomes on planting weren't up to scratch. Have you seen the rhizomes? Tiny little twigs like things whereas A blanda are small bulbs.

If you’re looking for Anemone...robinsoniana is perfectfor there Dawn. Its low to the ground with delicate pale blue flowers.

Ooooh, wonderful, you are so lucky to have that woodland area for the cyclamen. Whilst the cold will not upset the C. coum I am not sure how you would hope to clear the leaves from that whole area. I can understand why you would want to be seeing them all as in the example given but I would tend to leave most of the leaves as they are. Bit of a 'Catch 22' here; you want he leaves cleared so that you can see your cyclamen and the cyclamen want the leaf mould to flourish. The example you show is obviously flourishing with all those babies around it. Thin the leaves out in places and see how the visual aspect compares with areas that you don't clear.
