Can someone help identify this tree please.
the pinnate leaves are opposite as are the leaflets with a terminal. I thought it might be an ash but the fruit is a small globe like a hackberry. Any thoughts appreciated !

I'm thinking a species of Chinaberry (Melia). The problem with that is that the leaves of Chinaberry are alternate, rather than opposite. Unfortunately, in the pictures above, I can't confirm that the leaves are opposite. I see lots of pictures of the bipinnate leaves, but none of where they join the actual stem.

I'll take some more photos. there are a bunch of them which have been used as a street tree here (near a beach at the moment) so there may be some more distinguishing markers on the others. BTW is it possible to add more photos to a post eg in this reply as otherwise i need to delete some of the original 3 ?

I have replaced the first photo. Does that help ? i believe I got the leaves being opposite wrong. they are whorled at the ends of the branches

Actually, the new photo seems to confirm that the leaves are opposite, though a close-up lateral view would help more. I thought of Radermachera, but the fruits of that are like string beans on steroids, not round berries.

I just found another one of these trees which had more mature fruits (warmer where i am at the moment) and it looks absolutely like a melia as you said. I have updated the third photo (not sure if it is possible to add photos to responses to the original post). Thanks for the id.
"Fruits - 1.5 cm wide bead-like, smooth and green initially, wrinkled and yellow when mature."

Yep, that's a Chinaberry (Melia azedarach). I should have recognized it instantly, but the ones that I grew up with were all the variety 'Umbraculifera', which has a far different branch structure, and smaller leaflets.
