Do slugs dissolve in water? Last night I did a slug patrol because most of my early flowering daffs were eaten. Not wanting this to be repeated with the later ones, I took off over 50 slugs and (I'm ashamed to say) drowned them in water. This morning they had all vanished and I wondered whether they had dissolved or had they escaped? Just now I've torched around and found only 2 of the little devils on daffs. WHich leads me to conclude that they did indeed disintegrate in that tub of water. Can anyone enlighten me?

No they don’t dissolve, they normally go bloated and Flote on the surface, that’s what happens in a large bucket I have in the garden, I have observed a fox eating them from the bucket once, so that may be your answer unless birds, magpies have got them depends though on the depth of your container though.

Salted water will kill them though.

I wish they DID dissolve in water. With all the rain we get here my garden would be free of them :D

I have seen them glide serenely out of a bucket of water. so they may well have escaped.

I suspect many escaped too - water or lots of wet they like, makes it easier for them to move around...

silly of me to ever think tht slugs might dissolve given how much they like wet conditions. i'm still mystified. thnkyou for your thoughts. could be wildlife i guess. the first letter of the -lph-bet is not working on my keybo-rd, neither is upper c-se.

(Hi Julien, where have you been?...)

I used to feed slugs to my pet turtles and they devoured them. Then one day my neighbor made turtle soup.
