Lysimachia vulgaris - Yellow Loosestrife is the best I can do but if it is, it shouldn't be in flower yet. Only a guess, I'm afraid.

the flower looks like a st John;s wort but like the loosestrife suggestion it is very early. Most flower july onwards. Also most St John's wort don't have flowers so close to the stem they tend to be on slender stems.
I've had a look through several wild flower guides and cant get a definitive id.
how tall? soil type/ damp/dry sun shade etc.

St Johns wort is usually hairless isn't it, and if you look closely this one seems to have a hairy stem??

Thanks for the info, I took this pic a few years ago when I was in Scotland, I may enter it in a Wild Flower competition at our camera club so that is why I needed the name of it, I will look it up just to verify the name of it now, Thanks again. xx Jackie xx

It's a Ligularia of some sort--a bit hard for me to tell which one, though. A picture of the leaves would help, if you have one.

Tugbrethil; you can see the lance-like leaves just below the flower stalk.

there is a hairy stemmed st johns wort but the flower arrangement is wrong for this species.

From what I read, there are over 500 species with lots of crosses.

I wonder if it could be Solidago californica. I would expect it to flower in summer/autumn but the weather has been very variable. Can you remember when you took the photo (month). It looks to be later in the year from the other plants that are growing with it.

Well, the basal leaves are what's diagnostic. I suppose that it might be some other composite, but it definitely isn't a Hypericum.

Scotsgran.
I took the photo on the 20/09/2016 :o)) x

I think it may be Solidago virgaurea. Definitely not Hypericum.

I think you're right on Landgirl. We dont have this plant here in NY. I hope this is finally resolved.

I think that Landgirl has it, too:

I didn't think of Goldenrod at first, since the species that I am familiar with have plume-like inflorescences, with much smaller flowers.

The new photo is much clearer and yes I agree it is Solidago though the floral guide I was using doesn't have it looking anything like this. Resorted to another guide and it looks much better. Good spot Landgirl.

Thanks Landgirl for ID-ing the wild flower.
When entering a Photo into a Camera Club Competition you must know the name of the wild flower :o)).
Thank You to all that helped with their input, nice to have peoples help, much appreciated :o))

LOL we are all winners now in knowing this is a British wild flower and ?common in Scotland. I can't say I have seen one looking as poker like as this but that only proves I'm not dead yet.

Thank you SG, good point! lol

Although it’s a weed, I wouldn’t mind having it in my garden in a wild area :o))

Previous question
« My wine coloured Acer is looking very sad should I feed it
This looks like Hypericum aka:'St. John's Wort'. I'm not 100% sure. Let's hear from the others. It's a powerful herb used to treat depression.
