Everyone says how good comfrey is for the garden and I have found a source of it nearby.as well as growing some myself. But no-one seems to mentions the stalks. I usually chop these up small and put them in the compost bin. Is this ok or is there a better way to use them ?

what you have done is fine hank. some make a comfrey liquor by steeping the leaves in a water butt of water. it stinks but is very rich in nutrients. don't dig the roots in as it will grow with a vengeance.

We pull it up, let it lay out & dry out, then till it under roots & all. Don't let it go to seed.

Thanks guys, I’ve always made the smelly liquid and still have some of last year’s. There seems to be some doubt about using the flowers, or throwing them away ?

Compost the lot Hank.

My comment about 'don't let it go to seed' may have caused confusion. This was to keep it under control. It can spread.

Here it's used as a cover crop, then tilled under.
