They like a lot of water, but do not like to sit in it. I have heavy clay and found they did not do well I suspect because they love a well-drained soil, I should have add more grit for my heavy soil to ensure good drainage and lots of organic material too. Feed regular with blood fish and bone up to 3 times spring to late summer.

Avoid nitrogen based fertilizers.
