I have an asparagus pea plant. I know nothing about them. It is growing well in a pot and has 2 small red pea flowers so far. Should I get some more for pollination or could one produce a few peas(?) on its own? Is it more of an ornamental plant than productive of edible peas?

Thanks Stera. I'll be interested to see how it develops.

A definite waste of space. They produce very few pods and they turn from barely edible to solidly inedible in a matter of minutes. I do not know of anyone who grows them twice.

Thanks Owdboggy! Should be interesting! I have to say I've never seen or heard of them before--perhaps that's why!

They have both male and female on the same plant and are pollinated by insects. The edible pods aren't really like peas and are said to taste of asparagus. I read that they need a long growing season.
