Hey does anyone have any idea what it means when this happens to your roots ? I’m a beginner and doing sort of ok with plants this guy is a long vine was doing great then this red thing started coming up through the soil. Once I decided to repor it his roots looked like this. Is this normal ?

What you have here could be a terribly root bound ornamental sweet potato vine which is forming tubers ( not edible). I would get it into a larger pot for sustained growth.

Before you re-pot into bigger pot, shear off the bottom inch from the root mass. Just shear it clean off with a serrated knife. This will open up the root mass.

Thanks guys! I couldn’t find anything online about it had no idea what I was doing ! End up repotting into two pots. They look pretty awful right now. Lots of brown dead leaves. But there are some green ones too so I’m hoping it’ll work out. Thanks again

That's OK. After you repot it and clean up all the dead matter, it will come back beautifully - until the next frost.
