Can I use Glyphosate on these pear tree suckers? I have dug up area twice but must have missed a few roots each time and these pop up again! Would ideally like to kill off old root sytem left behing even after the stump grinder was used! Do I spray/apply on the leaves? Any advice greatly appreciated!

You can spray Sbk on the leaves but make sure you protect the grass round it. That deals with blackthorn suckers very effectively.

It’s been ordered. Thanks for your advice. I’d like to plant a little tree in it’s place in the autumn - would that be ok?

Might be best to have another go at digging out the old roots where those suckers are to be on the safe side , but you can always repeat the spraying if further ones appear after the new tree is planted.

Even if you manage to kill off the old roots from suckering, you will still have the old dead roots which will decay and produce fungi. I would be inclined to grass over the old spot and grow your new tree somewhere else.

Stump and brush killer would be more effective, in my experience.
