This old tree stump is covered in ivy and looks very woodland and rustic, so I like it, but can anyone tell me what the white string like stuff is? Is it from the ivy or is it some kind of nesting?

Don't know what the material is but it looks like a nest to me...

is it attached to the ivy stems or free? it looks like roots but it could be nesting material.

I have zoomed right in and it looks just like old string judging by the ribbed effect?

Me too Julian, you can do that on an iPad.

Try pulling some of it away, pull it up, cut it off, then look at it close up. Is it attached to anything? Tell us what it is.

Hi, I've just zoomed in on my laptop, and it looks like garden twine to me, Derek.

I think the ivy is trying to root into the tree stump.
