Has anyone ever tried splitting and transplanting crocosmia at this time of year? I have stacks of these and want to move some to another part of the garden. I could do so by lifting the clump with plenty of soil around the corms and get them into their new locations immediately. But before trying this, I wondered what the opinions are?

I have never done this but doubt that there will be a problem, even in this weather. Keep them watered.

Thanks, Bulbaholic. That was what I was thinking. Water the hole into which they are going and the soil around the corms. And, of course, the new site once they are in.

I've done it the way you describe and all was well, just water them well.

They are very tough. I doubt there will be any problem.

I've also done this and the ones in the middle of the clump don't even notice they have been moved. the outer ones wilted a bit but plenty of water sorted them out.

Many thanks, Waddy, Pennyfarthin and Seaburngirl. This is my task for tomorrow now. :)

The sad thing too is that I dumped loads of crocosmia during the early spring when tidying up the garden. I could have used those for this spare area.

Crocosmia spreads nicely so you should have a really nice show in a year or so.
Actually in a garden I had in Nottingham it got treated as a weed (plant in the wrong place) and I had real job to get rid of it except where I wanted it to grow.

I did plant some corms a few years ago and they did not develop very well. They were a mixed batch and many of them failed. However, now the more dominant oranges have prevailed and spread quite well. However, I have them in many places inn the garden and they have clumped really well. As you say, Hazeyboo....... too well! But here in the west of Scotland they seem to like the heavy wet soil.

How do I say thanks?
