Could someone ID this for me please. It came free in a pot with another plant we bought, (Callicarpa Bodinieri Profusion) in 2016. It's still in with the CBP but is now about 5 foot tall and has beautiful leaves with pale pink fluffy flowers, which the bees adore. Thank you!

Hi, I agree with Owdboggy, but I know joe pye weed as Eupatorium purpurea, but whichever nme it is, it's still a Eupatorium, Derek.

Thank you so much, I don't think I've ever heard of such a plant. I absolutely love it, it is tall, strong, needs no fuss, and as I say, the bees and butterflies go for it big time. Lovely!

You should also check out Joe Pye Weed - 'Little Joe'. A dwarf version of the same thing.

Hi, I've just noticed that you still have it in the same pot
as the Callicarpa, it's not a good idea to have 2 large plants in the same pot, the Callicarpa wants to grow ino a large shrub, about 10ft high, and the Eupatorium to about 7ft high.
If there is no reason why they can't be planted in the ground, then I would plant them both in the ground, the Callicarpa is fully hardy, and the Eupatorium, extremely hardy, [down to h 7, which is minus 20 centigrade], but at this time of year, I think I would wait until autumn to try and separate them, Derek.

Thank you Derek, I was thinking of at least moving the Joe Pye Weed into another pot, a nice big one. I have over 100 pots and I like the freedom it gives me of moving plants around, filling gaps and changing the whole look of the garden regularly. I may have some space in the ground by Autumn so I will think about putting the Callicarpa there, I think it will benefit from that for sure!
Bathgate, I will check out the dwarf version too, thank you!

What a lovely plant! Apparently there are several "Joe Pye Weeds" . . I recently planted Eupatorium rugosum Chocolate: deep purple leaves and white, fluffy flowers. This one only grows to 2ft - 3ft luckily.

It reminds me of Joe Pye Weed or more properly Eupatorium maculatum. Can be a bit of a seed weed so once the flowers have finished it needs dead heading.
