It looks as if I have been given a wrong identification on mine. Clematis are so similar.

They sure are, Cestrian - Ernest Markham's described as petunia red, but when I grew it, it was much more this colour, disappointingly. Nice, but not red. The other problem is the reproduction of colour by the camera used, it varies.

Yes it drives me mad even if they are labelled in garden centres they are often wrong.I much prefer buying from growers their labelling is more reliable.

Yes, I've ended up with a Jackmanii that was labelled Comtesse du Bouchard...
