Amarine, amaryllis belladonna and nerines. According to the info on websites the foliage on these bulbs should die down through the summer and a flower should emerge in Sept/Oct. The foliage on mine (all 3 varieties) has stayed all summer and is just starting to go yellow on the nerines and amaryllis belladonna and for the second year the nerines have foliage on offshoots. I haven't disturbed them but yet again there is no sign of a flower on any. They have been in full sun all day. I have been trying for 4 years to grow these, even tried in pots which rotted off last winter and I've never had a flower. They do grow around the neighbourhood as I've seen them flowering in other gardens. anybody got any idea what may be wrong.

OK thanks, that's me, impatient as usual. I presume there is no sign of a bud on yours either.

its rather early for the flowers Barbara. Mine have been in the same pot for years in a sheltered SW corner and they get pretty dry in the summer but there are now over twice as many as when they were planted.. Perhaps you are being too kind to them?

I've had mine years - split the pot many times. No sign of buds yet, but mine never flower till October anyway, sometimes quite late in October - seen 'em out there on the balcony in the fog in November some years, they were that late starting to flower!

I grow all 3 and the Amaryllis belladonna has finally started. The white variety I have just put up its first stalk, about 3 weeks late. The standard pink should be coming up soon. This year I bought some nerines from Exbury, and the first of those has put up a stalk 2 days ago. The amarine have put up foliage and the flowers, hopefully, will come later. It did not bloom last year until October.
You might try cutting off the foliage in spring. Around the first of April I cut it all back instead of waiting for it to die back. And if the foliage didn't die back, did you keep them watered during the summer? They need a dry summer rest.

It would be good to revisit this question in October and see what happens - how are we going to remember?

I will, all being well - will try to remember to post here when mine start to flower, and on the conditon of the foliage by then - nerines only though.

Thanks all. I'll keep an eye out for the neighbourhood flowers. Going away for next week so that'll stop me looking for the flower buds.
Autumn colchicum has poked through a few buds already so something to look forward to.

I will look in later too. My Nerines have increased in number. I was beginning to think I would have no flowers.

I've only grown Nerines, not Amaryllis belladonna. Nerines produce foliage in late spring and that foliage stays in place all summer - by autumn, its starting to yellow (although mine are currently still healthy and deep green). By the time the flowers arrive, the leaves are properly yellow and many people just remove them and leave just the flowers on display. So yours still having leaves is perfectly normal...
