Hi everyone, a friend has just mentioned about hearing to take out about a 1inch tip of Gladioli flower spike (as a cut flower) Has anybody heard of this? and if so what benefits?
Thanks and hope your all getting ready for the winter outside, we have had such fabulous days still in past few weeks!! Let's hope for more still eh!!

I never heard of it, but maybe that would help keep them from flopping over so much. However, I would leave it if I were planning to make a cut flower display - adds interest.

yes for cut flowers I take the top couple of buds out as they never seem to open.

« These Fungi have appeared in my garden, what are they and how do I get rid?
Next question
I do this myself, the top 3 or 4 buds. Only because they never seem to open before the rest of the flower dies.
