Not one of my better questions this but it has to be asked - i forgot to dig up part of a row of potatoes I set many months ago. I think they’re Maris Pipers. They’re not looking too bad if I cut small parts out of them. Are they still edible ?
I’ve put 2 bananas with them to give some idea of their size.

Quite edible. Just give them a scrub, cook and enjoy - with or without the babanas.

They look fine to me. Just don't eat any green potatoes. Those are dangerous.

yes get them in the pan Hank and it isn't a poor question.
lots of other people will have done the same.

Thanks for your replies guys, my “know-it-all friend put the doubt in my mind so I had to ask. They’ll be in the pan tomorrow.

There are people who say that if there is any green on a potato you MUST throw it away. That, of course, ignores the millions upon millions of people who've been cutting off the green bit and eating the rest for hundreds of years without coming to any harm.

I'm in the latter category and so was mum and I am still around to tell the tale :o)

Yeh, as long as they are not green.

I think you are tempting fate because many have gotten very sick.

I've always cut off green bits and eaten the rest, and no harm done.

No kidding! Lol!

but if the green bits are removed there are not any of the alkaloids in the remaining starch. the chlorophyll is just under the skin in the protein layer.

right and that's why I said don't eat green potatoes.

I read your further comment on not tempting fate and thought it was to me, as I cut the green bits off and eat the white flesh. No worries however.

I just keep saying, 'don't eat green potatoes'. Green & white are 2 different colors.

How do I say thanks?
