Further to asking a couple of days ago about my Hebe that died suddenly, I have today taken the photo's of my two white ones that are at the bottom of my garden, I suppose this is more of a warning than a question, however I ask has anyone else been losing their Hebes….Both were okay last week, this is how quickly this is happening...Oops sorry they have gone on sideways..

Thanks Seaburn, I couldn't believe what I was seeing today, very disgruntled to say the least...

It reminds me of snow, frost, and wind damage , hebe are not that winter hardy ... is the side that is dead does it get hit with the wind from that side ?

Gnarly they are on opposite sides of the garden, in actual fact they are both pretty well protected by the trees and fencing, the one I have already removed was in the sunniest and driest part of our garden but these two are in shade for most of the day, its a puzzle and that's a fact, we've had a few frosts recently but no snow at all, I wouldn't class it as being a hard winter, it was a very short one really...I beginning to think Seaburn might be right about them possibly going as a result of the drought last summer, no one has suggested disease so think I will replace but plant elsewhere just to be on the safe side....

Hi
My mum had two slow growing conifers either side of her path in the front garden , until the local male fox decided it was a good spot to let others know it was about ...
so many reasons why plants just give up the ghost...

Oh dear Lincs, that's a shame..do you think it would be possible or viable,to take all the dead branches off,and see if the rest of each plant survives,or would it look too unsightly? I know I have pruned all my Hebes quite drastically, when getting too leggy,or some dead or dying branches....almost to the base at times..they all came back looking healthy...just a thought..xx

That's right Gnarly, I have always kept dogs and often I've had to doctor a shrub or rinse a potted plant if one has decided to be naughty and go somewhere they're not supposed to, trials and tribulations of liking ones garden and also sharing with pets, we had a fox visiting a few years ago, my immediate neighbour saw it eating a chicken in her garden and kindly informed another neighbour a few doors further up, he kept chickens, said fox disappeared never to be seen again......

wow that seems to be very fast. if they dried out too much in the hot dry summer that would explain them all going at once. I am not aware of a disease that targets hebes in this way.
sorry not much help Lincs. I will have a look at mine in the daylight and see if it is happening to mine.
