My friend has a newly turfed lawn. She commented that she would love to have daisies in it. She is no gardener. Just looked at google and it seems that daisies need prepared soil. Could she just sprinkle some seeds?

Daisies - Shasta Daisies definitely need a prepared bed. The grass would choke them out before they have a chance. You can start seeds indoors or as Seaburngirl suggested get plug plants. Maybe sink the pots to ground level for the daisies.

I think they mean our native Bellis perennis , well I assumed that. But if its the oxeye daisy or others like Shasta then they will grow tall and would make mowing the lawn a problem.

There are many varieties of Bellis Perennis but make sure that you buy Lawn Daisies Bellis Perennis. You could sprinkle the seeds on the lawn or the best way is to buy or borrow a plastic tray with mini cells and germinate the seeds to form plugs and then plant them into the lawn.

Yes I do mean lawn daisies. I have some shastas and I wouldn't inflict them on anyone else. Hard to control. So I will need to buy some plugs or germinate some seeds and get plugs that way. Do they spread easily?

I've found some plugs online. They are £1 each so i won't be buying very many. Could sow some seeds too. Thankyou SBG, bathgate and Jimmy for helping.

the other alternative is to look at neighbours' lawns and if they have daisies growing, knock and ask if you can grub some out. you never know they may be delighted to get rid of them.

I'm with Seaburn, why would anyone pay for daisies? Just keep your eyes open & check wasteground, verges & even local parks. As long as you're responsible & repair any damage surely nobody could object?

Why didn't I think of that!!! I can dig some of my own up and hope that they spread their seeds around my friend's new lawn.

Hi, you can come and dig mine up if you like,😊😊😊😊, Derek.

And mine. Your friend deserves a medal for her foresighted attitude. I have championed the humble daisy for years and am delighted that she shares my love of our humble wild flowers.

Scotsgran, I totally concur with your love of our wild flowers. I do make some boobs though; for example the 3-Cornered Leeks (so pretty)trying to take over the garden. Also the Cuckoo Pint which I left because I like it and is now everywhere! Been putting the leaves in the compost so that benefits. Herb Robert is another one but I leave that and just pull it up where I don't want it. Purple Toadflax is a feature at the back of the border now and I'm so pleased that my neighbour donated it.
Derek, they complement any lawn. Learn to love 'em!

I would have thought lawn daisies would soon appear by themselves!

Penntfarthing, so they obviously self-seed. If I can get some seeds I'll scatter them around and will also dig some up from my front garden. I've got so many and can spare a few.

you can buy plug plants from wildflower growers. that might be easier.
