Why has my Salvia ‘Hot Lips’ flowers grown back all red with the white upper petal changing to red this year? Still a lovely plant but wonder why?

the flower coloration on these is unstable and therefore variable - you may get a mix of red and white, all white and all red flowers, or all white, all red or anything in between. Often they start out early in the year in a single colour, and then start producing bi coloured ones later in the season, but it is very variable. There's a theory that heat or cold makes a difference - fortunately, bees don't care what colour the flowers are, they still love it anyway.

Same happens to mine. Something to do with amount of sun I think. I took cuttings in spring which have already flowered and they are just red as well.
