You can trim it now, but if you want to take it up and set it further back so it won't overhang, do that in the fall.

When we moved here there were two overgrown ones in the back garden. We cut them back very drastically - we discarded one and moved the other in the Autumn. I thought it would die but it has grown well and is now huge again and is doing a grand job where it is now. If you want to clip it and leave it where it is there should be no problem but if its a large variety it won't be worth moving it back just a little way as you'll be back to square one in a couple of years.

We've trimmed it and will cut further back in the Autumn.Don't want to move it and it would be impossible to do.Will try to keep it under control with trimming. Thank you
